Instagram offers a fun way to creatively post photos and share them with friends. It is a social media platform that offers a great way to discover posts from other account holders. However, like any other social media platform, it poses a lot of risks for you and your personal information. Hence you need to make sure that your account is protected from Instagram hack. The truth of the matter is that we have a false sense of security that nothing bad can happen to us. But before it becomes too late, we should take the necessary precautions to increase security of your Instagram account.
Make your account private
With a private account, you have the option to choose the users who will be able to see your photos. When this feature is activated, only those you chose to share your online photos with will be able to see your pictures. To set your account to Private, click on the three dots on the right corner. If the button turns blue, it means that account is already private.
Block followers you do not know
While you would want to get as many followers as you can, having many followers has its disadvantages. You may start to receive inappropriate comments on your photos from followers. Once they do not interact with your posts, you start to get the feeling that they are only lurking. Even if you set your profile to private, your followers will still be able to see your posts. So your best option is to block the people you do not want to see your photos. Go to your list of followers, tap on that user and choose the Block User option. This will stop them from seeing your posts and use it for Instagram hack.
Don’t expose your location
Another preventive step you can implement to ensure the security of your Instagram account and protect it from identity theft is to switch off your location services. This is important because we have the tendency to broadcast in our social media networks where we are. This gives thieves a clue on when they can go to your home and empty the place. As much as possible, avoid checking in certain photos and avoid becoming a victim of robbery.
Use Two-Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication gives your account an additional shield of protection. In case, a hacker is able to decipher your password, they will not be able to completely hack your account as they will need a second factor to prove their identity.
